Bernice L. WeryNovember 24, 2016 ~ March 5, 1921 (age 95)
Sadly, on Thanksgiving, 2016 Bernice Lillian (Perkins) Wery (nee Morgan) passed away peacefully in Garland, Texas at the age of 95. Born in Akron, Bernice spent her early years in West Virginia, moving to Akron to attend Central High School and later finishing nursing school. In 1943 she married Walter band established their family in Akron, and later (1955) moving to Manchester (New Franklin) where she raised their three children, David, Nancy and James. Following Walter’s death in 1976, she married Charles Wery and relocated to Tippecanoe, Ohio. With the passing of Charles in 1983, she moved to Smyrna, Tennessee to be close to her sister, Rosella. In 2003, Bernice moved to the Dallas area to be near her daughter Nancy’s family, and finally settled in Wylie, Texas.
During her life, Bernice was a collector…collecting many friends, along with coins, stamps, dolls and buttons, with buttons becoming her life-long passion. She served as an official within the National Button Society, and became the organization’s president after many conventions. She was also active in Ohio’s Republican Party, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime volunteer for hospice care.
She is preceded in death by her two husbands (Walter and Charles), sister, Rosella, and son, David. She is survived by her long-reaching family and friends, including her daughter, Nancy, and son, James, along with many grandchildren and great-children, widely distributed from coast to coast.
Bernice lived a good life and was much loved by all who knew her. She will not soon be forgotten.
