Luella Carol Hurd, age 93, passed away on June 4, 2018. Born November 1, 1924 in Upshur County, West Virginia, she grew up on her family’s farm, one of nine children of Lamon and Nell Wimer. Luella graduated from Buckhannon High School, moved to Akron, Ohio with her sister Ruth, and worked in support of the war effort at B.F. Goodrich.
She married Wayne Hurd on her 21st birthday, and they made their home in Kenmore. Luella was a wonderful homemaker, devoted wife, and loving mother to four children who will treasure their memories of her. The family attended Goss Memorial Church where Luella was church secretary for many years.
Luella enjoyed gardening, quilting, crochet, baking, and was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed regular family visits to West Virginia.
She was blessed with six grandchildren who will cherish their memories of time spent with Grandma. They were often in the kitchen making pancakes or baking cinnamon rolls, or in the sewing room making Halloween costumes and later on some of their wedding attire. Later in life “Great Grandma” enjoyed visits with her eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband Wayne passed away in 2012 and grandson Todd in 1984. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Lewis (Nancy), David (Rose), Arthur (Carol) and daughter, Loretta Smith (Dave). The grandchildren are Jennifer (Simon Vaughan), Josh, Kelly (Ben Davis), Jason (Katie), and Aaron (Jen). Surviving sisters are Iris Mae Swecker and Jean Samples; and sister-in-law. Gerrie Mathie. Great-grandchildren are Ellora Lawhorn, Jillian and Wesley Davis, Charlotte and Annalise Hurd, and Amelia, Caroline, and Emily Hurd.
Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home 3326 Manchester Rd. on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. A private funeral will be held. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stoney Glen Camp, in memory of Luella.
